The Future Of Human Resources
Thursday, March 1st, 2007A few weeks ago, a former co-worker and I were having a discussion about an article I read in a recent edition of Macleans Magazine (one of my favorite print magazines). The article was about the next hundred years of our children’s lives.
We got to talking about scientific advances and what the future of Human Resources would be like. This is what we came up with:
Resumes would no longer be printed or even available in a portable file format like PDF or a Word document. Instead, you would have a microchip implanted under your skin which would be scanned or accessed wirelessly from a device attached to a computer. When accessed (by entering a username and password known only to the bearer of the microchip), it would display your ENTIRE employment history on a screen. Where you worked, exact dates of employment, salaries, job responsibilities, and everything related to what you have done to earn a living. It would also contain reference letters from previous employers.
On the new employees first day, they would be scanned, with all relevant information being saved to the chip. This information would be updated periodically if the employee is promoted, receives a pay increase, or is demoted. Dates of demotion/promotion/pay increase would also be stored.
Does it sound futuristic? Yes, quite. Farfetched? Absolutely not. In an age where some people would willingly volunteer to be implanted with a chip of some kind, one could only surmise that it wouldn’t take too long before this information could be stored on such a “device”.
