Goals for 2007
Sunday, December 31st, 2006Lately, I’ve been thinking at great length where I can improve my skills as a web designer, and I have realized that I am somewhat lacking in the department of technical know-how. I recently took a look at my resume, and there isn’t much on that makes me saleable from a technology-comprehension standpoint. I’ve seen a great deal of interesting things being built my peers and I find that I am in awe of their accomplishments. It’s time to dust off the cobwebs and start getting down to business.
So what I’ve done is put together a list of things (in no particular order) that I will do in the upcoming new year.
- Learn AJAX.
- Build an application using the Google Maps API.
- Become more proficient using CSS.
- Do a podcast.
- Dive into ColdFusion, and really learn how it works.
- Learn how to build an application interface using the cfformgroup tag.
Get a good job.DID IT!!! Read “Now Gainfully Employed“.- Improve my photography skills.
- Learn to speak Spanish.
On a personal level, there are a number of things that I would like to change. I would like to learn to be more patient, and not get so frustrated when I don’t understand something. I would like to starting purging the unimportant people that I’ve got to know over the last few years. More specifically, the people (who I assumed were allies) whom I’ve emailed or called or visited about work and have chosen not to acknowledge my efforts (or my presence for that matter) by making a phone call or sending me an email and saying “thanks, I’ll see what I can do for you” (you know who you are). I would like to be more conscious of my health and stop smoking, eat better and start going back to the gym.
Finally, I’d like to be a better person by not focusing on the negative elements of my past, but instead focus on the positive aspects of the present, by appreciating the people in my life and loving myself for who I am, instead of hating myself for not being what I am not.
Here’s to a good 2007! Hope your New Years celebrations go well. And please, don’t drink and drive. Take a cab, call a friend, or sleep over somewhere.
See you on the flipside.
